Gods of Random have gone for Nick. By my arbitrary methods, WW1 magicians have come out a clear favorite with the more traditional fantasy and space opera doing OK. No love at all for my mis-fit space cop and actual negative love for a cold war thriller. I rather like number two as well, so I shall take the results of this poll and claim they are statistically valid and scientific

2 but maybe avoid ww1 and 2 they were done in this way (sort of) by turtledove. Maybe go further back? Armada? Or peninsula war? Or India?

I like #2. Sounds reminiscent of some aspects of Alan Moore and that’s never a bad thing. I also like the sound of #5. Space opera, game of thrones, dune?! I can only dream that such a thing will come to pass.

Number 2 gets my first vote. But number 3 is a close second. Number 3 sounds more original but 2 seems more along the lines of something I’d read.

I think I like #2 the best, closely followed by number 4 – both have something about them I’d read! Looking forward to either of them!

I’m interested in The Incorruptibles, even moreso now that I see that cover.

As for your options, I’m most interested in #2 right now, but largely because I feel there’s a growing trend in historical fantasy and alternate historical fantasy. Or maybe there’s always been those book, but at least now, with Peter Higgins writing Soviet-tinged secondary world fantasy and Mary Robinette Kowal writing Regency fantasy, I think there’s some interesting work going in there, and I’m curious to see how another author tackles the issues.

Number 2 sounds the most intriguing. I agree that thieves and conspiracies have been done, but that’s not to say there’s room in the market. 3 also sounds interesting, as does 4 and 5. Hell, I’d read them all!
