Book Giveaway: The Forever War (23/7/2012)

An SF classic that I haven’t read and for which I get perpetual grief. Everything suggests I would probably like it, so maybe said grief is justified.

This is the Gollancz SF Masterworks edition. Usual deal – comment on this post and I’ll randomly select a lucky victim for a free copy of the book. Surprisingly no one has yet complained about how long it takes me to get to the post office and post things, but it can take a while and if you live abroad then it can take even longer. Sorry about that, but they do get there eventually.

I recall it being a very good read although the being ordered as to who you sleep with struck me as interesting

  2. Alex says:

Why on Earth are you giving it away if you haven’t read it?

I think it’s the perfect antidote to Starship Troopers.

  3. Steph Hudson says:

I’ve not read it either. The difference is, if you send it to me, I might!

  4. Gillian Holmes says:

    @gholmes724

Please enter me in the draw – thank you x

  5. Brian says:

I’ve been meaning to read this one for a while too. I’ve decided recently that because I love Old Man’s War so much I really need to read this one on sheer principle.

  6. Miles says:

Please enter me in the draw! I recommended this book to a friend complaining of dislocation after his 18-month tour on an Antarctic research station, despite not having read it myself – I’d like to be sure I didn’t give him a bum steer!

  7. Io says:

I’d like to enter, please – I’ve been meaning to read this book for years.

  8. John says:

Ive read quite a few of the excellent masterwork series, but not this one.

  9. Karl says:

Please do not give this book to me. I have three copies already (two print, one digital). Read it – just once. Joe Haldeman ploughed his experience as a Vietnam vet into this perfect satire. Don’t feel you have to read the sequels (Forever Free and Forever Peace). They don’t come up to scratch. But The Forever War is one of the 5 Science Fiction novels you really should read if you remotely like writing. And – bonus – Joe Haldeman is on Livejournal. He’s on there, blogging about his days, like any normal dude. Check him out.

Oh yes please, I recall that together with Stranger In A Strange Land, these two
make quite a pairing. Alas, our library
    hasn’t got a copy of this one…

  11. Leanne says:

Love to be entered, thank you :)

  12. Pev Gattei says:

What a book!! Would love a copy.

  13. Stephen says:

Because having two copies will not help me read it any more quickly.

  14. Doug says:

I would love a copy of this book. I actually started this one a long time ago, but lost my copy. This could be kismet. :)

  15. Io says:

Thank you so much – it arrived safely today :-)
